The Playroom

Here's a quick view of the playroom. The stick on the right side is a dowel to prop up the roof. This room is in the attic portion of the house, on the far right. Lottie's room is just to the left. I've been trying to go through this room recently, and pull out some of the toys. I'm a bit addicted to miniature toys! The fireplace and corner cupboard are half scale, but I liked that they were child sized. I'm toying with the idea of making this room more of a school room, but I haven't quite decided yet. The fireplace originally had a HORRID brick surround. I seached online for antique tiles that would work in the room, printed them out, varnished them and glued them on. That little change helped the firepleace so much! I also replaced the rather boring gold metal fireplace screen with a little scrap screen. I have no idea if scrap fireplace screens were ever made in real life, but I like the interest it gives.

  1. Oh Eliza, you've got some delightful miniatures! For instance the wonderful sampler over your fireplace with the little dogs in front of it is worth of a close up!
The scrap fire screen is just lovely, great job.
By the way, I think the title of your blog is very original and well chosen. I hope you'll enjoy blogging and I look forward to seeing many more picture of your miniatures (and lots of close ups! ;)

  2. Thank you! I have to say, I'm having a hard time choosing what to show first, because nearly everything in my house has a story behind it which makes it special to me.
The title was a happy coincidence. I just happened to reread Mansfield Park as I was working on the scrap screen (and had parlor-crafts of all types on the brain) and the phrase stuck.

  3. Love your playroom! I too am addicted to miniature toys and am just about to start on an Edwardian playroom in room box to cope with the overflow of toys from my Toy Shop.
